Provide regular power supply in metered areas

JAMMU, AUGUST 3- Minister for Tourism and Culture Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora, who is here to attend the Jammu summer Secretariat for a week, today reviewed functioning of various departments associated with delivery and regulation of basic services, besides pace of progress on developmental works across the region, at a high level meeting.
The Minister reviewed the functioning of various departments including Police, PHE, PDD, Irrigation, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Traffic, and Tourism Department.
Directing the administration to ensure better delivery of services to avoid any inconvenience to the people, the Minister asked the PDD and PHE authorities to stick to the scheduled power curtailment and adequate water supply, particularly in areas reeling under hot conditions.
Chief Engineer PDD apprised the Minister about present status of Power supply in Jammu and other far-flung areas. She informed that unmetered areas having 8 hours curtailment whileas metered areas having 1-2 hours electric cuts. She also informed that more than 6000 inspections have already been done in recent months by the department and a revenue of approximately Rs.1 crore have been generated. She said that the department replaces the damaged transformers within 24 hours in Jammu city so that the people do not suffer.
The Minister directed the PDD authorities to provide uninterrupted power supply to the metered areas besides ensuring scheduled power cuts in unmetered areas. He asked JMC to strictly implement ban on polythene bags as these spoils the environment. He asked the Commissioner JMC for immediate restoration of choked nallahs in the Jammu city.
The Minister also reviewed law and order situation in Jammu.
Reviewing pace of progress on various projects, he stressed upon all heads of the departments to ensure close monitoring at various levels of implementation of schemes, both development and welfare programmes.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal gave a brief of arrangements made by the administration to ensure better delivery of services.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu Mr. Sanjeev Verma, DGP Jammu, Mr. Farooq Khan, Director Tourism R. S. Mehta, Chief Engineer PHE Mr. B. R. Dogra, Chief Engineer PDD Shenaz Goni, Commissioner JMC Mr. S. C. Sawhney, S E PHE Vinod Luthra, SE Urban Mr. K. K. Gupta, SE UEED Mr. Prem Kumar, XEN PHE Mr. Ashok Gandotra and divisional level officers of various departments attended the meeting.
