| JMC, Traffic police continues anti-encroachment drive | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 3:
Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Traffic Police today jointly conducted a day-long extensive anti-encroachment drive in different parts of the city.
Chief Enforcement Officers along with subordinate staff of JMC besides Dy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Police Force from the concerned Police Station and from District Police Lines visited the areas of Jewel Chowk, Canal Road, Talab Tillo, Akhnoor Road, Ranbir Market, Vinayak Bazar, Below Gumat to clear the footpaths / pavements and parts of roadsides from encroachments.
The team seized 7 truck loads of material / goods / articles like Scooter, Television, Coolers, Gas Cylinder, Fans, Weighing Scales, Tables, Crates, Pressure Cookers, Gas Stoves, Umbrellas, Counters, Foot Wears, Brooms, Tubs, Utensils, Drums, Stools etc., which were kept by the shopkeepers / vendors by encroaching upon footpaths / pavements on road sides etc thereby causing inconvenience to the pedestrians and also creating obstruction in the free movements of vehicular traffic.
Besides this, the team also demolished about 10 encroachments found raised / erected upon footpaths / pavements and seized a number of Reharies which were found stationary / plying without licence during the drive in these areas.
During the drive the encroachers tried to resist and objected Municipal Staff from removing and seizing the material / goods kept by encroaching upon footpaths / pavements etc but with the timely action and in presence of adequate Police Force such attempts of the encroachers were foiled.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation once again appeals to the shopkeepers to keep their goods within their shops / establishments to avoid seizure of these goods and penalty for such defaults.
The drive was held under instructions from JMC Commissioner SC Sawhney.
