| BJP’s scam committee holds meet | | Prepares itinerary of visit to Jammu, Samba, Kathua districts | |  EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 3:
After its formal announcement last week by BJP National Secretary and former MP Dr Kirit Somaiya, the newly constituted scam committee of the party held its first meeting here today at party headquarters.
The meeting was presided over by State President Shamsher Singh Manhas and conducted by the State Chief Spokesperson & National Executive Member Dr. Jitendra Singh who is also the Co-ordinator of the committee.
The members of the committee who attended the meeting included Chander Prakash Ganga, Chander Mohan Sharma, Sat Sharma, Bansi Lal Bharti, Balbir Ram and Rajinder Sharma.
At the meeting an itinerary was prepared for on-the-spot tour of Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts to be undertaken by the committee members on August 10 and 11 for which Dr. Kirit Somaiya will be arriving from Delhi.
Shamsher Singh Manhas said that the party has launched a countrywide campaign against corruption. While a number of scams have been committed during the rule of present Congress-led UPA at the Centre, our state too has witnessed a number of scams which involve ministers and bureaucrats. He said the role of the scam committee will be to expose major scams which have earned the state the notoriety of being second most corrupt state of the country. He said the committee will visit each district of the state and gather relevant evidences.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that 33 major scams in the state have already been identified of which the report about 11 scams will be placed before the media and the people on November 15. He appealed to the public and citizens to come forward with whatever documentation or evidence in their possession about the scams and corruption cases so that the committee may do the necessary follow-up and seek redressel through various administrative, legal and other means.
It may be recalled that the BJP Central high command has entrusted Dr. Kirit Somaiya with the responsibility to investigate major scams in different states of the country and compile the details and full magnitude of the defalcation of public money.
