| SC rejects PIL on setting up permanent Lok Adalats | | | New Delhi, Jul 30 The Supreme Court has dismissed a PIL seeking setting up of permanent Lok Adalats in all Government Departments and Public Sector Undertakings for resolution of service-related disputes of their employees.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice Y K Sababharwal rejected the PIL by one Narender Khanna of Delhi, who wanted the court to direct the National Legal Service Authority (NALSA), Central Information Commission (CIC) and the Centre to convert the existing High Court Legal Service Committees into permanent Lok Adalats for settling such disputes.
The Bench said NALSA can not be issued such a direction.
Khannna, who had two service matters pending in the Delhi High court for last nine years, had sought direction to the Centre for issuance of a notification to set up Lok Adalats for clearance of pending cases and providing speedy relief to the litigants.
He had contended that in the interest of Government Departments and their related organisations the Supreme Court should lay down some principles for quick disposal of the service matters.
In support of his petition, Khanna had submitted that the NALSA, in its Press note, had declared that for enabling timely and fair justice to all the government sector employees there should be alternate disputes redressal mechanism like Lok Adalats. |
