Focus on quality control: Sham to growers | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 4: Minister for Horticulture Sham Lal Sharma has asked fruit growers of the Valley to concentrate on the quality control and become a strong competitor in the international market. He said Valley’s fruit like apple, cherry, almonds and walnuts have earned fame worldwide and need of the hour is to maintain the quality to survive in competitions. The Minister assured the fruit traders that Government will do everything possible for their sustainable growth in the market. He said the issues relating to lowering the export duty, increase in the import duty and other bottlenecks coming in their ways will be discussed with the concerned authorities in the Government of India and resolved. He said State Government has been making coordinated efforts with the help of neighbouring States like Himachal Pradesh and Uttranchal to make a strong case for seeking several concessions for the fruit growers of the hilly terrain States. He said the umbrella of three States have succeeded in effecting modification of norms in some centrally sponsored schemes, which would prove beneficial for the fruit industry of our State, he added. Besides, leading fruit traders from across the Valley, Director Planning & Marketing, Javed Ahmad Khan, Director Horticulture, Dr. G.H.Shah, Managing Director, JK HPMC Ltd, Syed Rafiq Ahmad Furahi were also present on the occasion.
