| All J&K villages to have road connectivity by 2009: Charak | | | Jammu, Nov 30 Emphasizing that all the villages and hamlets in Jammu and Kashmir having population of over 250 souls would be provided road connectivity by the year 2009, Minister for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak has asked people to shun personal confrontations and whims that usually mar the pace of development and delay the execution of vital projects. Inaugurating 32 metre span Sarla Grattal-Kathar bridge at Akhnoor, the Minister said that Rs 70 lakh bridge would serve as an important link between the districts of Jammu and Udhampur. He said that the execution of the work on double shift pattern enabled the timely completion of this crucial link that apart from benefiting the people of Akhnoor has enabled quick accessibility even to the catchment areas of far-flung Mahore, Arnas, et al. Mr. Charak said that the Kathar bridge besides reducing tremendously the traveling time for the people has its obvious economic gains for the Akhnoor region also. He said that for the socio-economic progress and prosperity of the far-flung regions especially in the hilly Jammu and Kashmir, road connectivity and alternate linkages are an imperative. During his extensive tour of the Akhnoor, the Minister also took stock of the work on another important bridge namely, the Manowa-Kathar bridge. He said that the work on this bridge being executed at an estimated cost of Rs 17.73 crore is likely to be completed by September 2007. He said that the Manowa bridge once completed would provide better linkage between Reasi and Akhnoor. Being executed by JKPCC, the Minister instructed for adoption of double shift for timely completion of 417.70 metre Manowa bridge, besides directing the engineers accompanying him to ensure quality work on the vital Kathar road on which estimated Rs 2.29 crore are being expended. Saying that the coalition government is alive to the development needs of various areas, Mr. Chark said that for affording urban amenities in rural areas road connectivity is an indispensable requirement. He advised people to be united and form unanimity over core issues and development schemes being formulated for their welfare. Earlier, the Minister addressed a series of public meetings at Ambaran, Chardagarn, Tragwal, Patyari, Gurha Talab, Gharattal, Kathar, Dhara and apprised the people there that the accompanying engineers have taken stock of their development needs and demands. He said that all these works would be executed in a planned and phased manner after prioritizing these identified works enlisted by them. He said in execution of these works, representatives of villages, headsman, panchs etc too would be consulted and asked them to monitor these works for their durability and quality. Mr. Charak also inaugurated the Guest House at Akhnoor constructed at a cost of Rs 37 lakh in an spacious area of six kanals by the Roads and Building department. The Guest House houses 2-bed-room sets including a VIP suit. Located at the main Akhnoor town, he said, the Guest House would cater to the lodging needs of the government servants, who are in field jobs or on touring work.
