300 militants waiting to infiltrate into J&K: DGP
8/5/2011 9:22:48 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 5: Before onset of winter and closure of mountain passes, over 300 militants are waiting to seep in into the Valley and are staged in training camps and launching pads across the Line of Control (LoC), a senior police officer said today.
"There are varying numbers (of militants staged on launching pads for infiltrations in J&K). Some guesses have been in the range of 300 (militants)," Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda told reporters on the sidelines of function here today. He further said, "There are directions to them (militants on launching pads) to infiltrate in view of the closure of passes, which would happen after a month or two".
"There are big success on the counter insurgency and counter infiltrations. There is decrease of 70 percent in militancy related incidents in Jammu region as well as decrease in the number of operating militants," he said. "But, efforts (to infiltrate) are being made from across the border and instructions are being given to the militants to engineer infiltrations," DGP said.
"There have been several attempts of infiltration along the border in Kashmir. These attempts are aimed to push militants to this side before passes get closed," DGP said adding that due to alertness on border, several militants have been eliminated.
To a question that how many militants have sneaked in this year, he said "this can never be confirmed. Our endeavour is that if any one sneaks-in, he should be neutralized. In this direction we are getting successes". "But they (sneaking militants) are down than last year. Several terrorist commanders have been killed and lone terrorist commander in Kishtwar belt was killed yesterday," he said.
