Identify wastelands for development activities: CS | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 5: Chief Secretary Madhav Lal today asked Revenue Department to liaise with the department of Environment and Remote Sensing for identification of wastelands where new colonies, industrial estates and other developmental activities could be undertaken. Chairing a meeting on identification of wastelands, the Chief Secretary said that the process of identification of wastelands and its consequent development will minimize conversion of prime arable agriculture and horticulture land for non-agricultural activities. He said the identification will help the planners, administrators and decisions makers to prioritize waste lands in different districts for appropriate use. Madhav Lal said preference in the identification of wastelands should be given on twin capital cities, which he said are stifled due to increasing population pressure and fast urbanization. It was stated that 1500 sq Kms of waste land have been identified through remote sensing and GIS mapping in the State, which was decided to be corroborated through on-spot inspections by the revenue authorities. Meeting was attended by Financial Commissioner Revenue Pramod Jain, Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce, Umang Narula, Commissioner Secretary Forest Shantmanu, Vice Chairman Srinagar Development Authority, Dilshada Khan and Director Environment and Remote Sensing R. K. Kesar. |
