EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 5: Even as more than a month has passed, the resentment against the delay in establishment of Central University-Jammu (CU-J) refused to die down as a series of protests were held in different educational institutions of city and adjoining areas.
In order to intensify their struggle for Central University-Jammu (CU-J), National Panthers Students Union (NPSU) has decided to change mode of agitation on daily basis.
Yesterday, the bangles offered to the elected representatives of Jammu region by the female activists of NPSU hogged the limelight, it was the turn of burning effigies of Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibbal at various colleges of Jammu province by the students.
The female activists of NPSU of Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar held a protest demonstration at their college gate where they shouted slogans against the state as well as centre government
Speaking on the occasion Shallu, Reetu, Naseeb, and Loveleen said that it is very shameful on the behalf of the so called leaders of Jammu region who are preferring silence instead of raising voice of the students’ community of Jammu region at proper platform. They said that NPSU offered bangles to these leaders yesterday and even now if they do not come out of their luxurious accommodations, the female students of the Jammu region will parcel these bangles to those leaders of the Jammu region who are in deep slumber and are not able to listen to the hues and cries of the students who are on the roads and are out of their classes for more than 37 days.
The students of the GGM Science College, SPMR College of Commerce, GDC Ploura also boycotted their respective college and gathered at Shaheedi Sthal were they held protest demonstration against the lackadaisical attitude of the state as well as centre government towards the issue of CU-J and also burnt the effigy of Union Minister for HRD Kapil Sibbal.
The protest was led by Abhay Sharma (provincial vice president NPSU) and Lovekesh Gondhi (NPSU leader).
Speaking on the occasion Partap Singh Jamwal (provincial President NPSU) clarified that NPSU is of a view that until and unless a written order or notification from HRD Ministry is issued for the appointment of VC of CUJ, the NPSU will continue its struggle for the same. It was also clarified that NPSU has no objection if S.S. Balloria is appointed as VC of CU-J and clarified that student community of Jammu province has already suffered a loss of two sessions of CU-J and by no reason. They do not want to loose another valuable session by opposing one or the other for the post of VC of CU-J.
NPSU leaders said that those who are raising such demands might have their self interests and seem that they have some things fishy in their minds and are not concerned with the grievances of the student community.
The students of government degree college Samba boycotted their classes and moved out from college towards Jammu-Pathankot National Highway (Mansar Morh, Samba) to block it. Hundreds of students when reached the highway, the police arrested some of the student leaders.
In protest against the arrest of their leaders, the Panthers activists blocked the highway and raised slogans against the police. They warned the district police that they want their leaders back immediately on the spot otherwise their protest will continue at national highway.
In the meantime the arrested students were released by the police to pacify the agitating students.
