Restoration of SNM Hospital, WSS Leh in full swing: Rather

LEH, Aug 5: An amount of Rs 5.64 crore has been paid to next of the kins of those who died during the worst ever natural calamity due to cloud burst in Leh region last year. The amount include Rs 1.98 crore under National Calamity Relief Fund (NCRF), Rs 1.83 crore under Chief Minister’s Relief fund and Rs 1.83 crore under Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Meanwhile 387 fully damaged houses have been completely reconstructed whereas 277 houses are under completion.
This was stated at a high level meeting convened at Leh yesterday to review status of reconstruction work in the aftermath of flash floods due to cloud burst in Leh last year.
Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather presided over the meeting.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman and Councillor of LAHDC, Leh District Development commissioner, Leh and District heads of various departments.
It was informed that 257 persons had died in the natural calamity. Ex-gratia to 198 NoK of died persons has been paid whereas 35 persons, either being foreign nationals or being not entitled, could no be paid ex-gratia relief. It was informed that a total of 664 houses were fully damaged and 783 partially damaged.
Under NCRF fully damaged 664 houses were provided Rs 12000 per house and partially damaged 783 houses paid a relief of Rs 1500 per house.
The meeting was informed that the reconstruction work on SNM Hospital, Leh is going on in full swing. The Block F of the hospital has been made fully functional. Orders have been placed with Hindustan Latex Limited, Noida for supply of CT Scan machines at a cost of Rs 2.20 crore..
While reviewing restoration of water supply scheme in Leh town, Rather urged for its complete restoration as early as possible. So far 80% restoration has been completed at a cost of Rs 4 crore.
Minister also handed over possession of 11 houses, constructed by CII, to the beneficiaries.
Various deputations also called on the Minister and discussed matters related to the development of Ladakh.
