Sham Invites KAMA to invest in fruit processing industry in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, Aug 5: A departmental meeting of Horticulture Planning and Marketing Department Jammu and Kashmir with the Kashmir Apple Merchants Association (KAMA) was held here today under the Chairmanship of Minister for Horticulture, Sham Lal Sharma. Various issues were discussed with regard to overall welfare of the fruit industry from the J&K state. The meeting deliberated on issues viz, development of new Fruit Mandiat Khanpur Tikri with an agreement for providing shop sites for J&K based commission agent in these newly proposed Fruit Mandis together with a construction of mini Kisan Ghar of J&K Government at a proposed mandi site, charging of 6% commission from buyers, charging of uniform rates in case of cold storage in Delhi and NCR, regulation of traffic/truck movement in Azadpur Mandi during peak season and investment in J&K by KAMA members. The General Secretary of Apple Merchant Association /KAMA M R Kriplani while welcoming the Minister for holding the departmental /traders meeting at Delhi projected that freight /carriage charges are not fixed and are fluctuating and this issue needs to be taken into consideration and fixed freight charges be notified. Department as well as KAMA members placed these issues before the Minister and KAMA association submitted that 73 acres of lands/plots are available for Fruit Mandi however there is further need of vigorous pursuance so far as establishment of Fruit Mandi is concerned. Minister invited the KAMA members to invest in fruit processing industry and construction of cold storage in the J&K state so that the government is able to pave the way for employment of educated youth in the fruit processing industry. He added that since the business is based on trust the said infrastructure requirements shall be a big support to fruit industry of J&K state. He said that 50,000 crore fruit industry is having only 60% marketable fruit and 40% is not having fruit processing industry available. Minister ordered that a 5 member coordination committee shall be constituted with members of KAMA and traders to meet after every 15 days to see the progress of the issues discussed and accordingly quarterly reports should be sent to him.
