PDP emerging as a force to reckon with in J&K | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 5: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is trying to emerge a viable alternative in J&K to present coalition of National Conference and Congress in the state. The Party has not made in roads in the strong bastions of National Conference (NC) in Kashmir Valley but has made its presence felt in Jammu region as well. Taking full advantage of shortcomings and weaknesses of ruling alliance in general and its arch rival National Conference in particular the PDP leadership in the state leaves no stone unturned to protest and raise its voice in support of the demands of common man and the problems faced by him. Whether it is price hike of essential commodities, problems of electricity or power crisis in Jammu region or Kashmir valley PDP activists lead all other political organizations in coming ton streets to share the concern of common man giving an edge to the party among other political organizations in the state in championing the cause of masses. Comparing three years rule of Mufti Mohammed Syed led coalition with that of the Ghulam Nabi Azad's three year led coalition and present coalition led Omar Abdullah people describe Mufti as the best and able administrator. Mufti is a dynamic leader who deserves all credit for starting the peace process in the state, said G A Gojri a social activist from Banihal. This is the reason that PDP is gaining more popularity in the state, he added. Gojri said it is not in Kashmir but Mufti's PDP is becoming more and more popular in Jammu and Ladakh regions and the Congress will soon realize its blunder of siding with National Conference which has lost the popular mandate. He while giving full credit to PDP's people friendly policies said it was during the rule of Mufti Mohammed Syed that no region felt let down in distribution of funds and development process. Jammu as well as Ladakh regions who often alleged discrimination were satisfied with the allocation as well as the governance. His views were substantiated by Ram Kumar a resident of border district of Poonch. He said except the Amarnath land row controversy, the PDP leadership worked in the interests of the people of the state during its three year rule. The Party not only initiated the peace process but pursued it to make it result oriented. The people especially the youth who had gone astray due to wrong policies of previous regime and lost their confidence in the state apparatus regained the confidence in Government and the administration, he added. The PDP is all set to fully dominate the politics in Kashmir as it neither misled the people on the name of autonomy nor Pakistan but took a stand in restoration of total peace and tranquility in the state, said Mir Ghulam Rasool a progressiveMuslim from district Ganderbal. He said the people in the Valley have been misled on the name of accession by the politicians of the state right from 1947. Those who acceded to India later challenged it terming it a temporary provision misleading masses for over six decades for their political benefits, he added. The PDP leadership which besides fulfilling the regional aspirations of the people also did not mislead them on the name of accession, autonomy etc but took a pragmatic stand in bringing youth into mainstream by giving slogan that bullet for bullet policy should be abandoned to gain confidence of youth. He said this is the reason that the Party in 2008 Assembly poll emerged as a dominating political force in Kashmir and also made its presence felt in Rajouri and Poonch districts. The Party has become so popular in Kashmir Valley that in the recently fought Panchayt elections the candidates having the backing of PDP emerged victorious leaving NC and Congress far behind. He said the prevailing political scenario in the state show that PDP will emerge a dominating force in the coming years if Party continues to play a proactive role in the state politics. |
