Cross voting issue 'comes alive' | Anil Gupta confronts Manhas once again.....? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 5: At a time when the much damaging cross voting issue for the state unit of BJP is dying down and erasing from the public memory, former leader has once again raked it up through judicial means by slamming a defamation case against the local leadership that spins around the same issue. Anil Gupta, who has remained on senior post as vital as vice president of the party until cross voting issue jolted the party, has now sought a whopping compensation amount to the tune of R 25cr in lieu of what he alleges as acts of defamation resorted to by the local leadership in the matter of cross voting. nil happens to be the son of Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, a political stalwart who party has expelled two months on charges of anti party activities. Pertinently Party also expelled Anil Gupta formally in swift turn of political developments that happened two months back consequent upon cross voting surfaced on political circle. However, sensing this ahead of formal step by the leadership, Anil resigned from the post albeit not before loading the resignation with heavy allegations against the state president Shamsher Singh Manhas. Junior Gupta, in his lengthy texted resignation had specifically and significantly mentioned this point that he and his father had become victims of alleged conspiracy and that he would associate again with the party only when Manhas is removed from the party president post. After these developments, along with some activities by other suspended MLAs against whom the charges of having indulged in cross voting still exist, the matter has almost been pushed into oblivion, if not completely dead on political scene . Even as some MLAs filed other related petions in the court, including that by Bharat Bhsushan challenging the decision of Central Disciplinary Action Committee, this was dismissed by the court and their much hyped activities at that point of time receded eventually. Anil Gupta has filed the case once again, this time again targetting the state president Shamsher Singh Manhas. The development is being seen by political observers as direct confrontation between father son duo and the local leadership. What shape these take in coming days remains to be seen. |
