Batch of 373 pilgrims leave for Amarnath from Jammu
Lowest number of 1185 pilgrims leave for holy cave from Srinagar

SRINAGAR / JAMMU, August 6 : Amid tight security, a batch of 373 pilgrims today left for the Amarnath yatra from here, police said. As many as 195 men, 84 women, 4 children and 90 sadhus left from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here around 0505 hours this morning in a cavalcade of 11 vehicles for the 13,500-feet high cave shrine situated in south Kashmir Himalayas.
With today’s batch, as many as 78,437 pilgrims have left Jammu in 38th batches for their onward journey to the cave shrine.
Meanwhile, fifth batch of 1,688 pilgrims today left from here to Budha Amarnath in Mandi tehsil of Poonch district.
The batch comprising 856 male, 732 females and 100 children left in a fleet of 43 vehicles from the base camp at Bhagwati Nagar around 0625 hours this morning, police said.
Meanwhile the number of pilgrims to the Holy Amarnath cave shrine has come down sharply as the lowest 1,185 yatris today left from Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps.
A 65-year-old yatri Babu Nath Dass, son of Ramcharan Dass, resident of Gandhi Nagar, Mumbai died during the pilgrimage last night at Panjterni on traditional Pahalgam-cave route.
Yatra officials said that 550 pilgrim, including women, children and sadhu today left Baltal base camp for the holy cave shrine, situated at 13500 feet in south Kashmir Himalyas.
Similarly, 635 yatris left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp to cover the 32-km-long hilly track on foot from Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional route.
About 6.40 lakh pilgrims have visited the cave shrine since the commencement of the 46-day-long pilgrimage from June 29.
The annual yatra will conclude on August 13, the Rakshabandan day.
Meanwhile, as per the Meteorological Department’s weather forecast from today to August 10, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy today, and there is a possibility of light rain or thundershowers tomorrow and August 10, rain on August 8 and rain or thundershower on August 10, 2011, in the Kashmir Division.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, (SASB) R K Goyal has once again advised all those who intend to visit the holy cave to ascertain the obtaining weather conditions in the Yatra area before embarking on the pilgrimage.
The details of weather forecast are available on the website of the Indian Meteorological Department, at (www.Amssdelhi.Gov.In).
The CEO also urged all intending pilgrims to have themselves medically examined and no one with an orthopedic problem, chest or lung ailment or any cardiac deficiency should venture to undertake the arduous Yatra, involving trekking upto 14,000 feet.
