EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar Aug 6 (KNS): Toughing their stand, government employees on Saturday called for Lal Chowk chalo on September 8 to protest against the government ‘apathy’ towards them.
Addressing a press conference here, Joint Consultative Committee leaders, Abdul Qayoom Wani and Khurshid Aalam said, “There will be complete strike on September 6 and 7 followed by Lal Chowk chalo march on September 8. On all the three days there will be completes strike in Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh divisions. On September 8 employees from all parts of the state will march towards Lal Chowk.”
The JCC leaders asserted that government can’t browbeat them by invoking Essential Services Maintenance Act. “By threatening us with ESMA and arrests government can’t deter us from demanding our genuine rights. We are not scared whether government invokes Essential Services Maintenance Act. We will not give up this time and our agitation will be result oriented,” they asserted.
“In the past government made agreements with us but none of them was implemented,” they added.
During the last three years the employees have held weeks long agitations and anti-government protests to seek fulfillment of their demands.
Meanwhile, the strike of government employees continued for the second day on Saturday, with protest rallies being taken out at various district headquarters of the Valley.
Reports reaching to KNS revealed that the protesting employees presented memorandums to deputy commissioners in several districts of the Valley. In Srinagar hundreds of protesting employees marched towards DC office and presented a memorandum to the DC.
The statewide strike, called by JCC evoked almost complete impact in Kashmir valley while there was mixed response in Jammu and Ladakh regions.
The essential services including emergency services in hospitals had been exempted from the strike.
Abdul Qayoom Wani told KNS that work in most of the government offices, PSUs and Corporations remained closed today paralyzing the state administration.
