SMGS celebrates Breast Feeding Week

JAMMU, Aug 6: Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital celebrated World Breast Feeding Week which was started from August 1 to7 was celebrated, here today.

Speaking on the occasion Professor & Head Department of Pediatrics, Dr Rekha Harish and highlighted the events and activities conducted during this week.

Doctors of Pediatric and Obstetrics Department, Principal AMT School along with a large number of mothers, their relatives, Senior Faculty and Student Nurses and Public actively participated in these events.

An informative slide show on Breast Anatomy and Physiology, Technique, Advantages and Common Problems Myths related to Breast Feeding were presented by Dr Nidhi, Dr Annie and Dr Preeti and Deepika respectively.

Dean & Principal Government Medical College Jammu Dr Rajinder Singh, was the guest of honour for the occasion. He appreciated the Pediatric Department for carrying out such Interactive Sessions despite a heavy work load.

The Expert Panelists for the function included, Head of Department of Pediatrics Dr Rekha Harish, Dr G S Saini and Dr Ashu who elaborated upon the theme for this year’s Breast Feeding Week “Talk to me- Breast feeding a 3D experience” and addressed to a large number of queries from the mothers.

The aim was to add a third dimension to the breast feeding initiative according to the theme i.e. Communication along with protecting, promoting and supporting the practice Breast Feeding which leads to a healthy development of Much Sharper,Smarter and Intelligent Babies.

Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Dr Rekha Harish also emphasized the need to sensitise the girls from schools & Colleges and the Antenatal Mothers for early sensitization of women to this important facet of breast feeding in order to especially spread the message that ‘Breast Fed Baby is The Best Fed’ to the grass root level even before the baby is born.

She also laid stress upon the initiative of one million campaigns and urged for its support to facilitate the Exclusive breast feeding for at least initial Six months and women empowerment initiative.

A large number of Post graduates and Nursing Students had participated in the Counselling Sessions and Poster Making Competition, the winners of which were Dr Ashwini and Deepika.

The proceedings were conducted by Dr Mohd Razaq and Dr Neeraj, Dr Varun Kaul presented the vote of thanks.
