| CBI arrests passport officer Jammu | | | Jammu, Nov 30 Passport Officer Jammu was taken into custody by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following a raid. Cash of rupees 35000 and some incriminating documents have also been seized from the office of the accused during the raid in the Passport Office, here this evening. Sources revealed that acting on a complaint of one Basharat Hussian of Poonch, Sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today raided Passport office Jammu and arrested Passport officer Bakshi Singh who had allegedly asked Basharat to pay some amount through a broker. It was reliably learnt that one Basharat Hussian of Poonch had applied for passport nine months ago and was not issued the same by the passport authority. Basharat who visited several times to the office but nothing was done despite have clearance from CID and other agencies as required for the issuance of passport. Sources added. The complainant recently visited the office and met Passport officer Bakshi Singh and requested him for the early issuance of the passport. Sources said adding that Bakshi Singh allegedly told Basharat to meet Mohd Fazal who is a broker in the passport office for some negotiations. Simultaneously he (Basharat) had filed a complaint with CBI. Sleuths of CBI today laid a trap and raided the passport office this evening when the transaction of money was going on, sources told News Agency of Kashmir, adding both the complainant and the broker were kept till the search operation was completed. The passport officer, sources said, immediately taken into custody and an amount of thirty five thousand has been recovered from his possession, sources added. The house of the officer was also raided and some incriminating documents have been seized. |
