JAMMU, Aug 7: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Trade Union (JKPDTU) has strongly resented violation of labour laws and minimum wages act.
In a handout issued here today, it has been stated that a meeting of senior leaders of the union was held under the chairmanship of Suresh Sharma to discuss issues concerning working class of the state. The failure of the coalition government in conceding demands of the government and PSU employees was viewed seriously.
They said that JKPDTU will not be silent spectator to the repressive measures of the government. Meeting was convened to primarily discuss the issues linked with the local labor potential of District Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar .He demanded that local labor both skilled and unskilled should be given first preference in state run Hydroelectric Projects namely Chenani –Nashri tunnel Project, Gool- Sangaldan railway Project, Rattle Hydroelectric Project and Kishanganga hydroelectric Projects.
Trade union leaders pointed out that the firms engaged in the execution of these projects are exploiting the workers and violating labor laws. The import of workmen by these firms from outside the state was severely criticized and it was resolved to approach these agencies accordingly. Sharma assured to take up all these issues at appropriate level in order to redress the burning demands.
