Khoda sanctions Rs. 8 lakh scholarships for 180 police wards

SRINAGAR, Aug 8: Stressing upon the wards of police personnel for getting modern education, Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda said that in the present times, quality education is must for bright career.
He said that parents have more responsibilities to guide their wards towards right path so that they could become responsible citizens of the society. Khoda was addressing a meeting of Executive Body of Police Parivar Fund held at Police Headquarters here today. Meeting sanctioned scholarships over Rs. 8 lacs in favour of 180 school going children of JKP personnel.
Announcing the scholarships, he said that police organization has been taking care of the wards of its personnel including those wards whose parents have sacrificed their lives for safety and security of the people and public property. He said that sacrifices offered by these personnel have helped to bring state back on the rails of development and peace.
A policeman having a difficult nature of duty always remains far off from its family in the service of nation with the result his wards do not get required attention, he said. Realizing the hardships faced by the men in khaki, the organization is taking various welfare measures to promote educational career of wards of its personnel which include setting up of police public schools at various district headquarters, grant of scholarships in favour of meritorious wards and the children of deceased personnel/martyrs.
Wards include 128 children of those personnel, who laid down their lives for the security of the State. Scholarships have also been sanctioned in favour of 52 meritorious wards of serving personnel who have secured distinctions in 8th and 9th class examinations during the academic session (2010-2011).
Giving details, Khoda said that the organization has on top of its agenda the welfare of its jawans and their families. The department for the promotion of education among the wards of the personnel is providing scholarships to the meritorious children, who secure distinction in different examinations up to graduation level.
