| ‘NC-PDP opposition on leasing out state land uncalled for’ | | | JAMMU NOV-30 Strongly reacting to the opposition voiced by the National Conference and the PDP criticizing the Government move to lease out state land for development of tourism in the State, Prof Virender Gupta and H B Khajuria President and senior Vice-President of Jammu Mukti Morcha have asked Kashmiri leadership to leave Jammu and dispose off the property they have acquired in Jammu region. According to a handout issued by Chander Uday Sharma, Secretary, the JMM leaders have said that ‘if they oppose and don’t allow any person from outside the Valley including the residents of Jammu province to settle in Kashmir even temporarily they have no moral right to construct permanent structures in Jammu region and even in the rest of the country’. The JMM leaders said that whenever people from Jammu tried to settle in the valley, these very leaders raised the bogey that Kashmiriat was in danger adding that the settlement of large number of Kashmiri families including Farooq Abdullah and Mufti Sayed has endangered the identity and culture of Jammu region. ‘Advising Kashmiri leaders to shed their narrowness and hypocrisy, JMM has asked them to understand the realities as keeping Kashmir isolated from rest of the world is neither going to serve the interests of the people of the Valley nor this narrow and parochial attitude is going to save Kashmiriat’, the JMM leader said ‘Saying that the concept of Kashmiriat has become a narrow concept, covering only a section of Kashmiri society and a Kashmiri speaking particular religious groups’ the JMM leaders said that’ even the Kashmiri Pandits who remained part and parcel of the Kashmir society and contributed to enrich the Kashmiri traditions and culture have been excluded from the Kashmiriat’.
