Soz led deputation calls on Pawar | Seeks support for Market Intervention Scheme | | EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, Aug 8:
A delegation from J&K State led by Prof Saif-ud-din Soz, Member Parliament along with Sham Lal Sharma, Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture and a team of officers met the Union Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar here today. Prof Soz alongwith Sham Lal Sharma pleaded for support for introduction of the Market Intervention Scheme in the State for procurement of C Grade apple on 50:50 basis. They sought help from the Union Government for installation of the anti hailstorm guns to avoid the damages to the orchards on account of hailstorms. While pleading for making the Crop Insurance Scheme more meaningful and farmer friendly, they sought enhancement in the ceiling of insurance cover and greater contribution by the Union Ministry towards the premium. A request was also made to Pawar for waiving off the central excise duty on the tree spray oil. The delegation also sought establishment of KVKs in all the districts of the State including the newly created districts. The delegation was assured that all their requests shall be considered however, the project reports wherever required should be formulated and submitted to the Govt of India immediately. The officers from the Govt of India who participated included P K Baru, Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Jt Secretaries of Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Managing Director, National Horticulture Board, Horticulture Commissioner and others. The officers from the state included Javed Khan, Director Horticulture (P&M), Dr G.H.Shah, Director Horticulture Kashmir, Zubair Ahmed, Special Secretary Agriculture Production Deptt, J.L Sharma, Director Horticulture, Jammu and others.
