Jammu railway station as state of the art railway terminus soon: DTM

Jammu, Aug 8: The up gradation and modernization of Jammu Tawi railway station, to make it a state of the art railway terminus is in process. The blue print of the same has been prepared and is waiting approval and funds allocations by the Railway Ministry.
This was disclosed by the Divisional Traffic Manager Northern Railway’s Jammu Division, RS Meena in an interactive session with the members of Citizen Forum.
The project envisages installation of escalator from the parking lot in the premises to the overhead southern bridge at the station. The escalator facility will be provided at all the platforms.
Eventually two more platforms will come up, to cope with heavy traffic of trains coming to and leaving Jammu Station.
Setting up of a mulity facility complex, with separate waiting rooms for AC class and general class passengers, with sanitary toilets, separate for males and females, drinking water facility, catering snacks and food in a canteen, with lodging facility for the passenger in rooms and dormitory, on the upper storey of the complex, has been planned.
A vast stretch of land towards the south side of the premises, which presently in turned into dumping of garbage and waste point, will be properly utilized to provide additional facilities to the passengers.
However, Jammu Development authority has placed a road block in the progress of the project, by obtaining stay from the court against this move of the railway authority, the DTM told the group of senior citizens in the meeting.
He added that undertaking any development and renovation works within the area leased out to the railways, by any state agency is uncalled for and he was sure of getting the stay vacated soon and the project to get green signal for implementation.
The Citizen Forum members assured the DTM that they would take up the matter with in this regard with the concern authorities in the state govt. and press for not placing any hurdle in the way of up gradation and improvement work of the railway station, which is aimed at providing better facilities to the passengers.
In the meanwhile, the DTM agreed to provide 10 wheel chairs for the handicapped and align passengers boarding the train and dropping here.
