| Minor washed away in flash floods, 11 rescued | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 08: In flash floods in rivers and nullahs caused by torrential rains that continue to lash the region for the past few days, a minor boy was washed away while 11 others were rescued by the officials. Sarmoo (6), son of Yousaf of Chak Manglan, was washed away in the flooded Basantar river Sunday evening while he was grazing cattle near the river bank. His body was yet to be found, police sources said. Mohan Singh, son of Mansa Ram of Palli, Udhampur, and Rakesh Kumar of Orissa, were trapped in Rehmbal nullah, Udhampur, after it was flooded all of a sudden at about 9.45 am. They were loading sand in three tippers which also got trapped in the nullah waters. Sources said while the two labourers were rescued by police, the tippers were still in the nullah. Kamal Kishore (18) of Bikram Chowk, sadhu Kumar Dass (28), son of Krishan Dass of Narwal, and Ram Babu (30), son of Sham Babu of Madhya Pradesh, were trapped in Tawi river near Bikram Chowk. They were later rescued joinly by police and personnel of fire and emergency services department. Six persons were trapped in Tawi river at Rambagh Kullian near Satwari. They too were rescued and evacuated to safer places.
