| Surankote encounter turned fake killed 'LeT Comdr' was civilian | | | Amit Sharma

SURANKOTE, Aug 8: Claimed as Pakistani militant and District Commander of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) by Army, the Surankote encounter has turned out to be fake as in a sensational revelation police have declared the killed person as a civilian.
It is pertinent to mention here that Army and Police on Sunday had declared that they have killed Abu Usman, after a 12-hour long gun battle at Hari area of Surankote and they have also recovered a Pistol from the encounter site.
There were also reports that another ultra was escaped from the encounter site. However, whole story changed in the evening when local residents refused to bury the dead body because they had doubts regarding his religion.
In between, the rumour of killing of a Hindu youth by the army and police in an alleged fake encounter spread like a wild fire. Police took the body and bring it to Surankote for conducting the post-mortem. It was established that the dead man was a Muslim; however, the identification of the civilian was not disclosed.
In the meantime, the episode reached a climax when police came with totally opposite version of the encounter when it declared the dead man as a civilian, sources said. However, SSP Poonch Ashkoor Wani told media persons that police have interrogated two security men- a special police officer and a local Territorial Army man who disclosed that they have brought this man from Rajouri on August 4 and killed him at Hari in fake encounter.
SSP said that an FIR under section 302 has been lodged against TA Jawan Ab Majeed son of Mohd Bashir and SPO Noor Hussain son of Saeed Mohammad both working with 25 RR in the area. SSP added that after killing the civilian, SPO and TA Jawan had informed police and army about the presence of 'ultras' in the area and they also fired in the air.
SSP said that they have initiated an independent probe and ASP Poonch has been given the task of investigation.
Meanwhile Confirming Fake encounter at Surankote, GoC Romeo Force Lt Gen GS Shergill has said that the conspiracy of fake encounter was hatched by a TA Jawan and SPO on August 4 and both has mislead police and army to launch operation in the Dobawali Dhok in Surankote. He said that Army and police have initiated separate enquiries into the incident and all things will be cleared within couple of days.
Addressing Press Conference at Rajouri, GoC said that Noor Hussain of Special Operation Group (SOG) and Abdul Majid of Territorial Army (TA) had hatched this conspiracy to kill an innocent civilian on Aug 4 and they practically did it on August 6 when they mislead army and police to launch operation. He said that these people had killed this civilian before informing police and army.
He said that a Pistol was recovered from the spot however it was managed by the two conspirers besides his identity as Abu Usmaan was claimed after a diary recovered from slain person. GoC said that the diary was also managed by the TA Jawan and SPO in which the name of Lashkar Commander was written.
He said that two members of the Special Operation Group (SOG) and Territorial Army (TA) who provided the information to the security forces were being interrogated by police although Army has its own way of interrogation only because army want enquiry unpto the satisfaction of all. He said that the slain man 's identity is yet to be ascertained. |
