No school children at this year's Independence Day in Srinagar? | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Aug 8: The decision of the provincial administration not to hold any cultural programmes by school children in connection with this year's Independence Day functions in the Bakshi Stadium can only be called unfortunate. A local news agency has quoted official sources saying no invitations are being sent to any school this year to participate in the Independence Day celebrations at the Stadium on August 15. "Neither government nor private schools will be invited this time," the news agency said. It must be mentioned that local separatist leaders have been appealing the school authorities over the last many years not to send children to attend the Republic Day or the Independence Day functions at the Bakshi Stadium. Even during the worst times when militancy was at its peak school children have attended both the Republic Day as well the Independence Day celebrations in Srinagar. The decision to keep school children away from this year's Independence Day celebrations definitely indicates a major shift in the arrangements and the authorities must issue a statement justifying such a decision. |
