| SPO killed by timber smugglers in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Aug 9: A Special Police Officer (SPO) of Jammu and Kashmir police was killed when timber smugglers attacked a naka party with automatic weapons in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, official sources said here today.
They said a naka was established at Chejhama Dangiwacha forest in Baramulla district following a tip off about the transportation of illicit timber last evening. When a group of smugglers were noticed, the naka party challenged them and asked to surrender, but they opened fire resulting in serious injuries to SPO Tariq Ahmad, sources said.
He was immediately shifted to local hospital from where he was referred to S.K.Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) where he died. Smugglers managed to escape under the cover of darkness, they said adding a massive hunt has been launched to nab them.
