| Senior members of SP took stock of various drought hit districts | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, August 8: The J&K Samajwadi Party leaders Ram Singh Chauhan General secretary along with other senior leaders including Sheikh Mohammad Shafi, Varsha Devi, Mahila state president held extensive tour in district Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban respectively and took stock of the situation arising in these district due to drought like situation in the entire Chenab valley region. In their report submitted to the party supremo, Sheikh Ab. Rehman these leaders have started that in the entire Chenab Valley there has been no rains since April- 2011 and that about 3/4th of the crops have been damaged and the danger of starvation like situation looms large in the entire region in near future. More to this, two months free ration sanctioned last year has not been distributed among farmers and that farmers are being provided cash in lieu of ration which appears to be getting into a large scandal. The release further added that a small shower in the region on August 7, 20 11 cannot make up the loss caused to crops and the government should not delay or deny the relief benefits to the people who have already suffered much losses. The SP Supremo-Sheikh Ab. Rehman in a press release issued here, has urged the Government to constitute a team of experts to visit Chenab Valley region at the earliest for assessment of the loss and thereafter to take the necessary action. He further said that due to loss to the crops there appears a further danger to the lives of cattle stocks in the region.
