EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu,Aug 9 : Ground to air security apparatus has been has been placed in and around the two stadii in Srinagar and Jammu where the independence celebrations are to be held on August 15.
Official sources said that thoe additional companies of security forces that had been sent by the centre for providing security cover during the ongoing Amarnath yatra were to be retained for a week after the pilgrimage ends on August 13 so that they too would help the Government in maintaining law and order during the I-Day celebrations.
Instructions have already gone to the all the District Magistrates and police chiefs to initiate firm measures against any possible acts of sabotage by the terrorists. These instructions have been issued after the Government received reports that groups of militants were planning to carry out bomb and IED explosions during and after the I'Day celebrations to attract international attention on the Kashmir issue.
Additional police nakas have been set up not only in the twin capital cities but in other districts too. Security forces have intensified checking of private vehicles in order to ensure that no explosives were carried from one place to the other.
The Government has taken in hand additional measures for upgrading the security grid in Srinagar where the separatists have directed students not to attend I'Day celebrations organised by the Government.
Since attempts were being made at reviving the stone pelting era in Srinagar and other towns of the valley the Government has brought additional companies of police and paramilitary forces out of the baracks an deployed them in various sensitive areas.
Though the security forces have been asked to take effective measures for foiling any attempt at derailing peace they have been told to ensure that while dealing with stone pelters and other subversive elements there should be no human rights violations.
Security forces have been told to bank on lethal weapons to avoid causalities among the protesters.
