76 kg ‘bhukki’ recovered, three narco smugglers held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 9: Police have made two separate recoveries wherein it seized 76 kgs of poppy straw (bhukki) and arrested three narcotic smugglers including two Punjab based from Manda area here and Lakhanpur near Kathua today. Pacca Danga police confiscated over 34 kg of Poppy Straw and apprehended two Punjab based youth on charges of narcotic smuggling, SDPO City Kuldeep Honda said. The contraband was being carried to Punjab from Srinagar when confiscated by police during naka checking at Manda here today. Officer said that on specific information a naka was laid at Manda where police party intercepted a Tata Tavera vehicle bearing registration number JK04B-777 and on being frisked the consignment was seized. Two drug smugglers identified as Sukhvinder Singh son of Kabal Singh and Parminder Singh son of Baldev Singh, both residents of Hoshiarpur, Punjab were also arrested on spot. The entire operation was supervised by SSP Jammu Anand Jain, he said. On questioning the duo, he said, police came to know that Sukhvinder was working as assistant in Chemist shop in Punjab and Parminder was running a grocery shop. Both were indulged in the narcotic smuggling for the quite some time. “Their detailed questioning is in progress to elicit more information”, SDPO informed. Meanwhile, a narcotic smuggler was arrested at Lakhanpur and 42 kg of Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession. The catch was made by joint ream of Excise and Lakhanpur police. Deputy Excise Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmed informed that a Delhi bound truck bearing registration number JK13A/3585 was intercepted and on being frisked the contraband contained in six bags were seized. Narcotic smuggler identified as Aijaz Ahmed son of Mohd Riaz of Pulwama was also arrested on spot.
