SRINAGAR, Aug 9: What can be the grave injustice and highhandedness of authorities in the state than this that the kin of a respectable citizen belonging to a progressive thought has been denied the permission for publishing the newspaper from Kashmir Valley.
Shah Nawaz Rasool, son of Ghulam Rasool Mir a veteran trade unionist of the state who worked for his entire life for cultivating the progressive movement in Kashmir Valley has been denied the permission for publishing a news paper from Kashmir. Rasool who had applied for permission to Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal for permission in May 2008 is running from pillar to post for the same as till date the person has been denied the same.
According to Mir Ghulam Rasool ``my son applied to seek the permission for publishing a news paper from Kashmir to DC in 2008 but till date the same was denied for want of CID verification''. It is unfortunate that serving the state and working class for over 30 years the Government with honesty and dedication, the authorities have raised objections on my integrity and they have delayed the permission to my son for publishing the news paper on the ground that his father was involved in trade union activities which is unfortunate, added.
``My life is like an open book and my track record is clear as I have never indulged in any corrupt or anti social activity throughout my life and while pleading the cause of working class which I still continue to do I had never allowed any unwanted elements to intervene or interfere in the trade union affairs nor allowed any political organization as well as separatists to hijack the cause of working class for their political interests as my motto is to serve the working class so that he can lead a respectable life in the society, ''Mir added.
Mir said in last 22 years turmoil period the trade union moment remained confined to the cause of working class only as we are of the firm belief and opinion that the growing injustice with the workers and poor peasants is the main cause of unrest which needs to addressed. `` Is this an offense to educate the people about the real issues, to teach them how to over come the day to day problems and lead a respectable life in society,'' he asked?
``My Trade Union has been on fore front in organizing stalls every year during the annual Khir bhawani Mela at Tulmulla to welcome the Pilgrims there who have been the part and parcel of Kashmiri soil. Mir said I want to ask Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is this my sin on the basis of which my son has been denied the registration of news paper.''
Mir said he never indulged any unlawful or anti national activity but even championed the cause of working class all over state. And it is strange that if the son of a progressive person is denied justice then what will the fate of the state and how can government expect to change situation for a better.
This is not the only case of injustice but Peoples Welfare Society Ganderbal a social organization of some progressive and secular Muslims of the area has also been denied registration by the authorities since 2009. The Society which came in being in 2005 is working in the social and cultural field in the district since then. The society which is working under the leadership of Abdul Karim Wani has undertaken various projects in the field of culture and education in its hand and is propagating values of humanity, brother hood, peace and secularism. But God knows what fault the authorities have found in its functioning as they are still reluctant to issue no objection certificate to the society for its registration.
This is a serious matter and if the situation continues to run like this the common man in Kashmir will lose entire trust in Government and administration, said Abdul Karim.
