Dy CM launches GGF’s quit social evils movement | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 9: Describing Mahatma Gandhi as architect of Indian freedom movement, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said that roadmap to freedom laid by Gandhi ji has not only helped India achieve independence but number of countries in world have attained independence by following the path shown by Father of the Nation. “Gandhi ji was a modern day Mahatma in true sense, who led us in the war of freedom and later laid foundation for a strong and secular nation,” he added. Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a function on the eve of Quit India Movement at Model Institute of Education and Research, here today. The function was organized by Gandhi Global Family to launch five point quit social evil movement. On the occasion, Dr. Arun Gupta was presented Mahatma Gandhi Sewa Medal for his contribution to promulgate Gandhian philosophy. Former Deputy Chief Minister Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma, Retd. Maj. General Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Vice-President, Gandhi Global Family (GGF) S.P. Verma, Chairman, MIER Dr. Arun K Gupta, Director, MIER Dr. Renu Gupta, prominent citizens, students, youth activists and educationists were present on the occasion. While giving inaugural speech, S.P. Verma highlighted the role of youth in taking the mission of eradicating social evils forward. He said GGF has launched the five point campaign to quit corruption, dowry, drugs/alcohol, female infanticide and social injustice. Calling upon youth to be brand ambassadors of the GGF movement, the Deputy Chief Minister said Gandhi ji had high hopes on the young brigade of the nation and they should pledge themselves to carry the message to every nook and corner of the nation, thus making the movement a grand success. Congratulating Ghulam Nabi Azad on launch of the movement, Tara Chand said that the five point program started to make the society aware and free from evils, is a step in the right direction. These five points are the golden words of advice and every body should come forward and join hands in the fight against societal ills, he added.
