| ERA holds capacity building programme | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Aug 10: J&K Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) organized a Capacity Building Programme on "Environmental and Social Safeguards" here on Wednesday at Institute of Engineers, Jammu.
The programme was organized as a part of capacity building component of Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded Multisector Project for Infrastructure Rehabilitation (MPIR). The main objective was to sensitize the participants especially field staff about social and environmental safeguard policies of the ADB besides various state and central laws on environment and rehabilitation.
Inaugurating the programme, the Director Finance, J&K ERA, Zahoor Ahmad Wani said that the resettlement and environmental plans were an integral part of any infrastructure project planning process. "Meticulously prepared resettlement or environmental plan is pivotal to smooth execution of infrastructure projects," he added.
ADB Safeguard Specialist, Ramesh Swarnkar made a presentation on safeguard policies of the ADB and latest amendments that have been made in the policy. A short documentary on Resettlement and Rehabilitation issues and strategies was also screened on the occasion.
ADB Environment Specialist, Girish Mahajan in his presentation briefed the participants about the importance of environmental safeguard measures in the infrastructure projects to minimize costs to the environment.
Workshop was attended by more than 100 participants including the Project Managers, staff of ERA, consultants and the contractors.
It was a very interactive session wherein all the queries of the participants were responded by me resource persons of ADB.
