| BJP unearths major defense land scam in Kashmir, demands thorough probe | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 10: In one of the major defense land scams in the country BJP has unearthed 200 acres of land scam at Srinagar Airport and demanded a thorough probe into it and action under law against the culprits.
One of the major defense land scams of the country has surfaced in Budgam district of Kashmir Valley in which 200 acres of prime land belonging to defense has been transferred on the name of 68 persons at Srinagar airport, BJP national general secretary and ex MP Kirti Somiya told reporters here this afternoon.
Mr Somaya who is responsible in unearthing major scams in the country for last some time alleged that two private persons Riyaz Ahemed and A R Hanjoora
Are the main kingpin of the scam which has taken place in connivance with defense and revenue officials. He accused the State Government of non cooperation in investigating the land scam. ``The State Government has shown total reluctance in investigating the matter saying that the officials at lower level were involved in transfer of the land’’, he added.
This is a grave issue as there is every apprehension that the land might have been transferred in the name of anti national elements or terrorist which can also prove a security risk and the Government instead to hush up the case should take action against the culprits. It is not only in Badgam district where the defense land scam have surfaced but there are two more districts in the Valley where hundreds kanals of defense land has been transferred and the Party will soon come with startling disclosures In this regard, he added.
Mr Somaya demanded thorough investigation into the matter, suspension of officers responsible and deputing of a team of defense ministry and CAG to investigate the role of defense personnel in this regard. He warned that BJP will not rest till guilty are punished. The Party within three months will also unearth the other 100 scams which have surfaced in the border state of J&K, he added.
Mr Somaya who is also the national convener of the anti corruption cell of the Party is on two days visit to Jammu region to launch a campaign against the growing corruption in the country and the state of J&K. He said on August 17 BJP will also hold a campaign against the major scams in general and land scam in particular in in Kashmir Valley.
He said the defense land scam of Srinagar Air Port is never possible unless and until it does not have the involvement of higher ups in Government as no revenue official can dare to transfer 200 acres of land without the support of higher ups in Government. There should be a thorough probe to unmask the hand and the illegal transfer of the land be immediately cancelled, he added.
Mr Somaya who addressed a meeting of BJP activists at Karan Palace Nagbani earlier urged them to gear up to expose corrupt UPA Government at Centre and coalition government in the J&K. He said the Party will also expose the land scam in Tawi Island in which some politicians are involved. ``I will my self visit the area in Tawi Island and Kathua district where from reports of land scams have come and after thorough investigation at our level we will make them fully public to expose those involved in the same’’.
BJP National Executive member and state chief spokesperson, Dr Jitendra Singh and Party state president Shamsher Singh Manhas were also present in the press conference.
