Punjab police ASI, HC among 3 held while smuggling poppy straw | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 10: Three persons, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a headconstable (HC) in Punjab police, were late Tuesday night apprehended by police at Pucca Danga while trying to smuggle poppy straw in an Innova car. A police party late last night intercepted an Innova car (JK04B/4777) in the heart of the city at Pucca Danga during routine checking of vehicles. Innova’s search led the cops to the recovery of 32 kilograms of poppy straw. Police sources said the car and the consignment were seized and its three occupants, including driver, arrested. The accused were identified as Punjab police ASI Parvinder Singh, son of Baldev Singh, HC Sukhvinder Singh, son of Kewal Singh, both residents of Hoshiarpur, Punjab, and driver Ali Mohammad, son of Ghulam Hussain of Budgam, Kashmir. Sources said the consignment was being smuggled from Kashmir to Punjab for its supply to narco-smugglers. The Pucca Danga police had registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of law.
