Field day for thieves in Channi, Trikuta Nagar | | | Jammu: In what could be described as field day for thieves, the burglars struck at a temple and grocery shop while they made a vain attempt to loot an ATM machine here late last night at three different places. In the two thefts, the burglars decamped with some cash as well as other valuables According to police sources burglars broke open locks of the shutters of a general Store (grocery shop) last night in Trikuta Nagar and decamped with a television Set along with other goods worth Rs 25, 000. The incident came to fore, police sources said, when owner of the shop Bhupinder Singh alias Pummy son of Harbans Singh of Trikuta Nagar came as usual to open his shop this morning but he found locks of the shutter broken. "He reported matter to the police following which a case FIR number 141 of 2011 under section 380 and 457 of RPC at the Trikuta Nagar police station was registered," police sources said, adding a manhunt to arrest the absconding thieves was also launched. Meanwhile, unidentified persons have stolen a one-and-half-kilogram of silver crown from a Sai Baba temple at Mattoo Colony near Marble Market in Channi. "There was not trace of the stolen crown. However, police have started investigation in the incident," police sources added. Similarly, thieves with the intention to steal money from the Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) of Punjab National Bank in Sector one of Channi Himmat area tried to break it but they failed and fled away from there. "The attempt was made to break the ATM machine which was visible but it proved to be a futile effort," police sources added. |
