| ICPP Chatha shifted, inquiry ordered | | | Jammu: Sub Inspector Mandras Singh, In charge Police Post Chatha, has been shifted to police station Gandhi Nagar following the announcement of a departmental inquiry against him in connection with alleged beating of a youth in police custody. The decision has been taken by the SSP Jammu Anand Jain following reports appeared in this regard in section of media. SSP Jammu when contacted confirmed the reports adding SDPO Gandhi Nagar Mohan Lal Kaith has been entrusted the job of inquiry and suitable action to be taken against the cop if found guilty.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the youth Harjeet Singh (26) was admitted to the government hospital, Gandhi Nagar few days ago. The youth told the doctors and nurses attending him that the police had beaten him black and blue at the Chatha police post. Speaking to media persons at the hospital, the youth claimed, "Late on Saturday night, a team of police picked me from my residence and took me to the police post and thrashed me badly, though no case has been registered I was illegally confined," he said. The youth was lifted by police following his scuffle with his family members over alleged land dispute. |
