6 killed, 3 hurt as bus falls into nullah in Kathua, washed away by flash flood | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 11: Six persons, including a girl, were killed and three others wounded, two of them critically, after a bus in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into Moul nullah at Mahanpur near Basohli in Kathua this morning. Soon after the bus rolled down into the nullah, a flash flood, triggered by torrential rains on the higher reaches, washed it away, SSP, Kathua, J L Sharma said. The ill-fated bus (5071/JK02T), which was on its way from Damlad to Jammu, was being driven by its conductor Ashok Kumar, son of Uttam Chand of Deol, Basohli. The tragedy struck at about 7.10 am after Ashok, who was not trained as a commercial driver, lost control over the steering wheel. The SSP said soon after the bus fell into the nullah, a flash flood occured and washed it away. While six persons lost their lives, three others were rescued, he added. The dead were identified as Paras Ram, son of Punnu of Nowshera, Basohli, Sikandar, son of Harbans Lal of Kathad, Jamat Ali, son of Yousaf of Deoli, Bashna Devi (16), daughter of Mulkh Raj of Nowshera, Parminder Singh, son of Chaman Lal, and Tara Chand, son of Hans Raj, both residents of Damlad. The injured included Raman, son of Joginder Singh of Damlad, Shamima Akhtar (15), daughter of Umar Din of Utaar, and Ashok. All of them were admitted to local hospital. While Raman was discharged after first-aid, the other two were referred to the GMC hospital here following deterioration of their condition. Sharma, who had rushed to the spot to supervise the rescue operation, also visited the bereaved families later. A case in this connection was registered at Basohli police station.
