Chhari Mubarak left for Sheshnag, about 700 pilgrims left for cave | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR : “Chhari-Mubarak”, holy silver mace of Lord Shiva today left Chandanwari for Sheshnag (3352 mt) on way to Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalyas, where the last ‘darshan’ will be held on August 13, Rakshabandan Day. About 700 pilgrims left Baltal and Pahalgam base camp for the holy cave. Official sources said the Holy Mace, one depicting Lord Shiva and another Goddess Parvati, left Chandanwari, the last mortorable halting station on the traditional route after a night halt. The Holy Mace arrived at Chandanwari yesterday evening from Pahalgam, where traditional pujan was held on the bank of river Lidder. Led by Mahant Deependra Giri, custodian of the Holy Mace, will leave Sheshnag tomorrow to reach Panjtarni (3657 mt) after crossing Poshpathri (4114 m) and Mahaguns top (4276 mt) on foot the same afternoon. The Chhari Mubarak will start final journey on August 13 early morning to reach the holy Shrine, where the concluding puja will be held before returning journey same afternoon, ending the 46-day-long annual pilgrimage. Traditional rituals and prayers shall be offered the whole day at holy cave on August 13. However, before dusk, Chhari-Mubarak shall leave for night halt at Panchtarani from where it will have another night halt at Pahalagam. “Pujan and Visarjan” ceremonies shall be performed on the banks of Lidder river. Thereafter, traditional “Kari-Pakouri” Bhandara shall be organised for saints. With this last ritual, annual pilgrimage of Swami Amarnath shall culminate and Chhari-Mubarak shall return to its abode at Srinagar. Meanwhile, the last batch of 167 pilgrims, including sadhus and women left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp to join the Chhari Mubarak at Sheshnag. No pilgrim will be allowed from this route from today onwards as it will not be possible to reach the holy Shrine on August 13 after covering 48-km-long hilly track in just one day. They said 525 pilgrims also left from Baltal for the cave shrine this morning, to reach there in the afternoon. However, pilgrimage will continue from this route till last date, they said. About 6.50 lakh pilgrims from different parts of the country visited the cave shrine to have the glimpse of the self made ice-shivlingam. Majority of the pilgrims have since returned to their homes. This was the record number of pilgrims ever visited the shrine since the cave shrine was discovered by a muslim centuries ago. Sources said 97 pilgrims, five porters and two security personnel have lost their lives, mainly due to cardiac arrest since the commencement of the 46-day-long pilgrimage from June 29, which will conclude on August 13.
