Dy CM for accelerating execution of Dal dwellers rehabilitation | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, AUGUST 11: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand Thursday emphasized on accelerating conservation of Dal lake and rehabilitation of the lake dwellers at Rakh-i- Aarth. Chairing a high level review meeting of officers, Tara Chand reiterated the importance of preserving the world famous water body, which he said serves as a great attraction for tourists visiting the Valley. The Deputy Chief Minister expressed concern over slow progress of land scapping and earth filling works at Rakh-i-Aarth, directing the authorities to speed up the execution of rehabilitation project. In order to ensure quality execution of the project, the Deputy Chief Minister called for its third party evaluation and monitoring. This, he said will also ensure completion of the project on time. The meeting was informed that 16 lakh trees are being planted over 1500 hectares of land in the catchment area of Dal Lake to prevent soil erosion, out of which 1,181 hectors land have been covered with the planting 13 lakh trees so far. This project has been started in 2000 and a whooping amount of Rs 23 crore is being spent on it. It was also given out in the meeting that with the people’s participation LAWDA established crop demonstration plot with crash crops of Bulgarian Roses and Lavender for conservation of degraded area of Dal and Nigeen lakes. The meeting was informed that Sewerage Treatment Plant of Nallah Ambir Khan would be commissioned in September while as STP Brari Nambal will be commissioned in December. The meeting was informed that out of total 3000 kanals of land earth filling has been completed on 1,814 kanals so far while as work on remaining 1000 kanals is in full swung. Mr.Tara Chand directed the authorities of LWDA to consult the Chief Town Planner for increasing the size of plots from 5 marlas to 7 marlas at Rakh-i-Aarth. Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development department Suresh Kumar, Vice Chairman LWDA Irfan Yasin Shah, Chief Town Planner Iftikhar Ahmad and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
