Early Times Report SRINAGAR AUGUST 10: The Committee on Environment (EC) of Legislative Assembly has recommended frequent checking of traffic management and asked the officers of Pollution Control Board (PCB), Transport, Traffic and Environment departments to coordinate with each other to make J&K a free pollution state. The Committee, headed by Nizamu Din Bhat with its members Kafeel-ur-Rehman, Mr, Javid Mustafa Mir, Mohammad Khalil Band, Radhay Sham Sharma, Jugal Kishore, Prof. Gharu Ram Bhagat, Bharat Bhushan, Ch. Sham Lal, Abdul Razak Wagay, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Baldev Raj, Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani and Lal Chand met here and discussed in detail pollution caused due to vehicular traffic, role of PCB and Environment department in checking vehicular pollution etc. The Committee asked PCB and its sister departments to implement the laws in letter and spirit and ensure checking pollution emission standards. The Committee also suggested introduction of CNG in Srinagar and Jammu. The Committee called for plantation of saplings and trees on both ways of roads on well. Transport Commissioner, Dr. S. M. Fazlullah while briefing about the measures initiated by the Department to check pollution, said Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has provided two sets of Pollution Checking Equipments, Gas Analyzer for pollution checking of petrol driven vehicles and smoke Meter for checking diesel driven vehicles. Chairman, Pollution Control Board, Lal Chand, DIG Traffic, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar and Director Environment Ravi K. Kesar also briefed the Committee about the steps being taken by their agencies to control the pollution. Joint Transport Commissioner, Sheikh Fayaz, Deputy Secretary Legislative Assembly, Bashir Ahmad Wani and other officers of Transport, Environment, PCB, Traffic and Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
