8/11/2011 10:09:47 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 11: Following the cancellation of nearly 1,000 licenses about 2 years back after the major Kerosene oil scam surfaced in the city, K-oil has become a scarce commodity as Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) is unable to streamline supply line with the present infrastructure.
There are only 7 tankers with the department who have been put in different areas in the city on rotational basis but long queues have become now a routine site whenever tankers reach at any place. At present the per ration card quota is 15 litres within Jammu municipal limits and according to the officials they are still managing to supply 1 lakh litres of K oil every month in Jammu.
However people say that despite a detailed schedule made by the CAPD it is not followed by the officials and supplies are still very erratic in many areas.
A senior officer said, “We are facing problem but still we manage to supply oil to people in different areas of the city with the present infrastructure but steps are being taken so that people don’t suffer”.
He said that it was necessary to curb the black marketing of the oil and as per the directions of the state government.
It is pertinent to mention here that after a major scam surfaced in the state involving distributors and some officials of the department, government had cancelled all the licenses and had taken over the distribution of the oil in the region.
He said that department should use more tankers in the region to make supply regular so that people don’t have to suffer.
“Whenever the tanker comes to our area, people had to wait for hours for their turn. Why should ordinary people like us have to suffer due to corruption at government level”, said Basanti Devi, a local resident.
Although in recent years there is considerable reduction in the usage of K-oil by the people but still many poor families are using it for cooking purpose.
