Omar comes under fire from PDP, BJP | Over spending on heli rides | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 11: When everything was going alright for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah all of a sudden disclosure about his spending on air sorties for official and personal work have acquired centre stage and all the opposition parties gunning for him. Taking the lead after PDP targeted Omar on his sojourns state BJP Chief on Thursday targeted him for spending heavily on air rides. Addressing a media conference here today Manhas said, "it is highly objectionable and outrageous that in a state which ranks No. 2 and heading to be No. 1 in corruption, finds nothing wrong in spending such huge amounts for the luxury trips of Chief Minister and other high ups. He also demanded that the rules, regulations and criteria governing the use of state helicopter should be placed before the opposition and the civil society for an open debate and asked whether it was within rules for the Chief Minister to undertake scores of helicopter sorties between his Srinagar bungalow and nearby airport, Srinagar bungalow and Gulmarg, Srinagar bungalow and nearby SKICC without any urgency or emergency engagement. He also questioned the accountability of frequent use of state aircraft by the CM to visit his family in New Delhi. Manhas demanded that there should a strict criteria laid down for the use of state helicopters and state aircrafts. He added it is an arrogant burden on the state exchequer at a time when the Chief Minister and his ministers have repeatedly failed to keep their promise to release the arrears of Sixth Pay Commission to state employees on the plea of financial crunch and expressed their government’s inability to generate jobs for unemployed youth due to lack of funds.
