Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 11 : The Youth Congress Committee which was awaiting approval for taking a formal shape has been set up finally, after one with go ahead signal to the 'recommendations' by the IYC president. But the selection process is 'dogged' by some controversies with questions being raised over the criteria for choosing the names for as many as 11 general secretaries in the panel. All is obviously not well among the youth cadres of Congress, many of whom waiting for years to get 'adjusted' have once again been sidelined.
Reliable sources said resentment is brewing up among a whole lot of deserving and dedicated lot of youth Congress cadres who allege the selection of names have been under influence of money, besides nepotism as main standard for choosing youngsters for this panel, which ironically remains under scrutiny and gaze of iconic leader Rahul Gandhi. Sources said that the J&K Youth Congress Commitee president Shoaib Lone recommended this list of an 'army' of general secretaries to the IYC chief but not before it getting 'vetted' by some stalwarts of the party in J&K.
Sources also alleged that apart from bringing on board the kin of at two stalwarts former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and senior congress leader have been 'conveniently' accommodated in the youth panel, close relatives of some more senior functionaries of Congress have been adjusted without much 'efforts' on part of latter into the panel. However, what has raised eyebrows among the truly aspiring and deserving lot is that most of the executive members other than those having political influence, are on board on account of their financial background, quite many of them being from the affluent families. Sources also alleged money has played a key in making the final selections among the lot who, surprisingly have neither political background nor any association for a long time with the party, which qualifies for bagging these posts in the youth panel.
Out of 11 general secretaries three are from Kashmir and 7 from Jammu. Sources also alleged one of those from affluent category has not been accommodated due to pressures from different quarters. However, he being from a background of industrialist family, has been assured a high level post in Srinagar District Committee , since the 'ambitious' youth is understood to have 'obliged' certain quarters allegedly by paying money for seeking a berth in the youth Congress panel. Ironically there are at least medicos on board YC panel of state this time, one of them alleged to be not having 'clean credentials'.
