Govt claim on return of KPs 'hollow' | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 11: Though Government makes tall claims of discernible change in Kashmir situation but things have not changed for hapless Kashmiri Pandits who are leading 22nd year in exile in Jammu and other parts of their country. Forced to flee from the Valley in 1989-90 after the advent of terrorism, the Pandits have become an eye sore for politicians in the state as well as country who instead of solving their problem in real sense by ensuring their safe and honourable return in their homeland are holding the community responsible for the mass exodus to please the separatist and majority community in the Valley for their vote bank politics. Though the majority of the displaced pundits soon after their mass exodus strongly advocated for carving out of a separate homeland for the community within Valley in view of rejection of co-existence by the majority community in Kashmir, this demand was turned down by the Government as well as all political parties by terming it communal in nature without going into the basics of the problem which led to the mass exodus of the community in the Valley, said Ramesh Manwati, leader of Panun Kashmir. The homeland demand is as justified today as it was in 1991 when historical Margdarshan resolution was passed by KPs in this regard, he said, adding it was the majority community in Kashmir which rejected the co-existence from time to time and came openly in support of secessionism movement launched by the Pak sponsored ultras in Kashmir in 1989-90. ``We can't now again return to that atmosphere which is inimical to our cause and poses a threat to our existence and survival in future'', he said, adding as an ancient civilization the Government is duty bound to protect our ethnicity and culture but unfortunately it has failed to do so. The Government at Centre as well as in the state on the behest of separatists in the Valley are hell bent to annihilate this community making it dependent on few cash doles and some hundred jobs. No serious efforts have been made by successive governments in the state to find an everlasting solution to the Pandits problem, said Kundan Kashmiri, president Kashmiri Pandit conference (KPC). By merely passing bucks on each other the leaders of national parties can't ignore the responsibility. The Pandits have a history of thousands of years and were the indigenous people from Kashmir. They survived Invasions of Pathans, Iranis, Mughals and Turks to protect the ancient Hindu culture of Kashmir in past. Braving many attacks and invasions they managed to return to their ancestral homes and heaths during past migrations but after the accession of the state with secular India, Pandits have become scapegoats as no political party of the country mustard a courage to tell those who talk and claim of Kashmiriyat that what was fault of these hapless and unarmed people, he added. Kashmiri while turning tables in union Government outrightly rejected the PM's return package and demanded settlement of community in a separate homeland with free flow of Indian Constitution. ``We also appeal the conscious people of India to support our's demand as the community does not want to be exhibited as guinea pigs. We have our own aspirations and we can't sacrifice them to please the separatists in valley'', he added. Kashmiri while expressing concern over the plight of his community members passing an exiled life in different parts of country said that by providng Rs 1200 as cash assistance per family per day with few kgs of rice is a cruel joke with the community which has been deprived of its entire property in valley. ``Maximum immovable property of Pandits has been encroached or grabbed by the anti social elements in Kashmir during last 22 years while houses have either been damaged or razed to ground'', he added. How can a family of five to six members plan on a cash amount of Rs 5000 a month in such hard days, asked Vir Saraf convener Roots in Kashmir'. After how long will the community be dependent on these cash dolls. The Government should think on its permanent rehabilitation in its homeland in Kashmir, he added. The plight of relief holders is pitiable as nine kgs of ration given on per ration card to a pensioner is too meager to suffice a family. Moreover PM's employment package was only hollow slogan as out of 6000 jobs in package 1400 KP youth were absorbed till date, he said, adding moreover there is no acceptability to the community on ground in Kashmir where the secessionists are still ruling the roost.
