Army chief’s statement vindicates BJP stand: Jitendra Singh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 12: BJP national executive member & J&K chief spokesperson Jitendra Singh has described the Army Chief General V.K. Singh’s assertion that this is not the right time to lower the security guard on the Line of Control (LoC) as a vindication of the BJP’s consistent stand that any decision regarding the extent and nature of army deployment in Jammu and Kashmir should essentially be based on inputs from army professionals and not be motivated by adhoc political considerations. Jitendra Singh said that the Army Chief’s revelation that Pakistan has not yet dismantled terrorist training camps in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) needs to be viewed with concern. That there are still a significant number of militants waiting to infiltrate into Indian side is an issue which needs to be handled purely through professional means, he added and warned that any laxity in security at the behest of a handful of Kashmir-centric separatist leaders or separatist friendly mainstream political parties could cost the nation dearly. He said it is a strange irony that most of the Kashmir based politicians who are in the forefront demanding withdrawal of army are themselves heavily guarded by high security cover including Z-security. If these Kashmir leaders are genuinly sincere about instituting Confidence Building Measures (CBM), tbey should first surrender their own personal security, he suggested. Jitendra Singh appealed to two mainstream regional political parties of the state the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to resist the tempation of seeking mileage by showing down the army simply in a bid to consolidate their vote bank in Kashmir valley. He said the Congress party which is in power at the Centre as well as in coalition with NC in the state owes to explain its stand. For example, on the one hand, the Union Defence Minister & senior Congress leader A.K. Antony says that most of the complaints of human rights violation against army have been proved to be baseless, on the other hand the Congress ministers in the state maintain a convenient silence to continue in power, he alleged. Jitendra Singh also warned against issuing irresponsible statement that could democratize the forces deploy in the state which are already working under tremendous stress and strain.
