Violent clashes in downtown; 6 injured | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Aug 12: Violent clashes broke out between protesters and police in Old City areas after Friday prayers in which six youths were injured. One of the seriously injured youth has been identified as Suhail Khan son of Ghulam Nabi Khan of Zoonimar, a class 7th student. He has received head injury and was immediately shifted to SK Institute of Medical Sciences Soura for treatment. Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Amin Tabish told KNS that one critically injured youth has been admitted in the hospital. However, Dr Tabish said his condition was stable. Reports said clashes erupted in the adjacent areas of Jamia Masjid soon after the Friday congregational prayers got over. Groups of youth took to streets against the recent spate of arrest, mostly during nocturnal raids in the parts of Old City recently. As they tried to march, a contingent of Central Reserve Police Force and police, who were deployed in strength to scuttle any protest demonstration, tried to stop them triggering clashes. Reports reaching from the areas said that stone pelting was going on till late in the evening at several places.
