Two weeks EDP on tourism concludes at GDC Kishtwar | | | Early Times Report KISHTWAR, August 12: The valedictory function of the two weeks Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) on tourism under Seed Capital Fund Scheme (SCFS) organised by Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) in collaboration with Government Degree College (GDC) Kishtwar took place at GDC, Kishtwar. This was to enable the unemployed educated youth of the adjoining area to reap the benefits of SCFS. M H Malik, District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar was the chief guest at the valedictory function. While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Malik said that constructions of various projects worth over Rs 40,000 crore including hydel power projects are underway in the town. These multi crore projects can contribute in various income generating activities including the development of tourism industry in the area. “The district administration is also in the process of starting a regular helicopter service network to provide improved connectivity between various points. The proposed helicopter service network primarily aims to cater to the tourists travelling between various tourist destinations, since many tourists avoid visiting nature based tourism products of the area due to time consuming and effort taking remote locations,” he further added. He called on the entrepreneurs to take advantage of the abundant resources available in tourism sector in the area. “Training programme is designed to give the participants the necessary skills and knowledge about the career opportunities in this rapidly expanding tourism industry”, Vishal Ray, Assistant faculty JKEDI, said. “Several entrepreneurs were roped in to share their experiences and offer advice to the participants,” said Ray. Out of fifty four registered candidates only fifty candidates successfully completed the training programme which focused on entrepreneurship development in tourism sector in Kishtwar and its adjoining areas. The programme was commenced from August 1, under the coordination of Vishal Ray, JKEDI Asst faculty, and N N Mattoo, Nodal Officer. Subject expert, Tourism professionals, entrepreneurs were among those addressed the EDP participants during the fortnight. The EDP was the first in the series of 57 EDPs which the Institute is conducting in collaboration with the Degree colleges so as to put across the message of the SCFS to the wide audience and introduce the scheme in far flung and backward areas across the state. Prof. Ramesh Chander, principal GDC Kishtwar and R K Raina, Assistant director, District Employment Counselling Centre (DECC) were also present on the occasion.
