Vikram, Sulkhani lift singles titles in badminton | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, August 12: Top shuttlers, Vikram Saini and Sulkhani Kour lifted men’s and women’s singles titles respectively in the 26th Jammu District Badminton Championship which concluded at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today. In the men’s singles, Vikram trounced senior shuttler, Gurvinder Singh 2-1 (19-21, 21-13, 21-08) while Sulkhani outplayed Akanksha 2-1 (17-21, 23-21 21-15). The men’s doubles title went to the pair of Rahul Sharma and Avnish, who beat Vikram Saini and Sahil Verma 21-16, 21-09 in the final this evening. The under-19 boys’ singles final was won by Aman Badyal, who beat Shantul Raina in straight sets 21-13, 21-15. In girls’ under-19 final, Deepakshi emerged winner outplaying Prabhjot 2-1 (16-21, 22-20, 21-19). Pairing with Prabhjot, Deepakshi also bagged under-19 doubles trophy after duo outplayed Diksha and Suvidha 21-09, 21-12 in the title clash. In under-17 boys’ singles final, Shantul downed Abhay Mahajan 21-16, 21-15. Earlier, in the semi-finals, Abhay beat Arjun 21-17, 25-23 and Shantul beat Nirbay 21-13, 21-14. The under-17 boys’ doubles title was bagged by the pair of Sarvagya and Abhay beating Nirbay and Zafal 21-17, 21-12 in the final. In under-17 girls’ category, Diksha Mahajan defeated Saubhagni 21-08, 21-09 to lift the title. The doubles title went to the pair of Diksha and Himshee, who beat Tanjula and Gagandeep in straight sets of 21-17, 21-13. The under-15 boys’ singles final was won by Nalin beating D S Shivam in straight sets. In men’s veteran group, Anil Gorkha bagged the singles title outplaying Ashish Sharma 21-16, 21-10. The veteran doubles trophy went to the pair of Raju and Ravinder Verma, who beat the duo of Ashish and Ramesh Sharma 21-06, 24-22. In the men’s finals and prize distribution function, Minister for Sports, R S Chib was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies. Among others present were Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu, Dilbag Singh and Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Kiran Wattal.
