Chhari Mubarak left for Panjterni, about 450 pilgrims left for Cave | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Aug 12 : Despite heavy rains since early this morning, ''Chhari-Mubarak'', Holy Silver Mace of Lord Shiva today left Sheshnag (3352 mtrs) for Panjterni (3657 mtrs) on way to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where the last darshan will be held tomorrow, Rakshabandan. About 450 pilgrims today left Baltal and Pahalgam base camp for the holy cave.
Official sources said the Holy Mace, one depicting Lord Shiva and another Goddess Parvati, left Sheshnag for Panjterni despite heavy rains.
It was heavily raining on both traditional Pahalgam and shortest Baltal routes.
The Holy Mace arrived at Sheshnag yesterday from Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional route.
Led by Mahant Deependra Giri, the Chhari Mubarak will start final journey tomorrow early morning to reach the holy Shrine, where the concluding worship will be held before returning journey same afternoon, ending the 46-day-long annual pilgrimage.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, who is also chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) will also offer puja in the shrine tomorrow morning.
Traditional rituals and prayers shall be offered the whole day at holy cave tomorrow. However, before dusk, Chhari-Mubarak shall leave for night halt at Panchtarani from where it will have another night halt at Pahalagam.
''Pujan and Visarjan'' ceremonies shall be performed on the bank of the river Lidder.
Thereafter, traditional ''Kari-Pakouri'' Bhandara shall be organised for saints.
With this last ritual, annual pilgrimage of Amarnath will culminate Chhari-Mubarak will return to its Abode at Srinagar.
The last batch of 24 pilgrims, including sadhus today left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp to join the Chhari Mubarak at Panjterni in the evening.
No pilgrim will be allowed from this route from tomorrow as it will not be possible to reach the holy Shrine on August 13 after covering 48-km-long hilly track in just one day.
They said 423 pilgrims also left from Baltal for the cave shrine this morning, to reach there in the afternoon.
Pilgrimage will continue from this shortest route till last date, they said.
About 6.50 lakh pilgrims from different parts of the country visited the cave shrine to have the glimpse of the self-made Ice-Shivlingam. Majority of the pilgrims have since returned to their homes.
This time, a record number of 6.50 lakh pilgirms visited the shrine since it was discovered by a muslim centuries ago.
Sources said 97 pilgrims, five porters and two security personnel have lost their lives, mainly due to cardiac arrest since the commencement of the 46-day-long pilgrimage from June 29, which will conclude tomorrow.
