Mega Lok Adalat organized at Udhampur

Udhampur Aug 12: To quicken the pace of justice and ensure quick settlement of escalating litigation, the court of sessions judge Udhampur organized a five days long Mega Lok Adalat in Udhampur court complex.

On the directions of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Legal Services Committee, the District Legal Services Authority, Udhampur, hold Mega Lok Adalat at the district headquarter, Udhampur, from August 8 to 12 under the chairmanship of Principal District Session Judge Udhampur Brij Mohan Gupta who is also the chairman of District Legal Services Authority.

Two benches were constituted to dispose of the cases.First bench comprising of Brij Mohan Gupta, Principal District and Sessions Judge, and M.K Sharma, Chief Judicial Magistrate Udhampur was constituted to deal with MACT cases and the second bench comprising of Anoop Kumar Sharma Munsiff ,JMIC and P.K Jandial Advocate was constituted to deal with civil and criminal cases . In the Lok Adalat total 3o cases were taken up out of which 18 cases were settled. An amount of 16,23000 was given as compensation in MACT cases .

Senior Udhampur Bar member Pawan Jandial addressing in legal awareness during Lok Adalat celebration week said that Lok Adalats are playing an instrumental role in disposing off the litigations and the decision given by the pre-Lok Adalat is final and cannot be challenged in any court by appeal. It has the same legal impact as any other judgment of a regular court. The litigants will also be allowed to contest their own cases.'' he added.
